JR. IRON CHEF VERMONT COMPETITION 2017

GREEN MT. UNION HIGH ENTERING 3 TEAMS IN THIS YEAR’S EVENT!

I am pleased to announce that Green Mt High will be participating for the 5th year in the incredible culinary competition for Middle and High School chefs.  In years past our teams have returned from the event winners 3 times.  In looking over the recipes the teams have been working so hard on I feel we will once again bring home the gold.  The coaches and their teams are working   every week perfecting their recipes.
We are sending one Middle School team and 2 High School teams.  The Middle School team is coached by Brooke Decker.  Brooke stepped up and offered to help this year and saved the day for us.  The Middle School team consists of Maya and Aiden Farrar, Gwen Kekic, and Pearl Myers.  Gwen and Pearl are both seasoned veterans having participated in previous years.  The team came up with a great name by the way, TURNIP THE BEET!
The first High School team is coached by Christine Anderson and Carol Neff. Both of these coaches are past winners in the event and we are very lucky to have them on board.  They have worked very hard with team to perfect a great recipe. The team consists of four veterans to the event also.  Caitlin McCoy, Simone Martarano,  Chelsea Rose, and Alexandria Pippin.  This is well trained and well organized team.  Their name is GREEN MT. CHEFTAINS.
Our next team is coached by two more returning and winning coaches.  Carrie King and Jana Bryan have both been very instrumental in creating a great recipe.  This team is also a winning team from last year.  Team members are, Ange Wunderle, Laurel King,  Rileigh Thomas, Magali Stowell-Aleman.  All members with the exception of Magali are returning winners.  Their team name is THE SKILLET TAKES!   We are all very excited because all three teams have created incredible recipes. The recipes have been secret until the competition is over.
Jr. Iron Chef Vermont is a statewide Culinary Competition that challenges teams of Middle and High School students to create healthy local dishes that will inspire school meal programs.  This is the 15th year of the competition held at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Vermont.  It is a great event to attend to witness some 45 teams all in the same venue cooking their recipes.  The date of the event is March 18th.  For more information visit: Jrironchefvermont website.
I would like to once again thank our coaches for their time and energy and efforts in working with the teams.  Good luck and thanks to all three teams for being involved in a great program.  A huge thank you to Green Mt Union High and Principal Tom Ferenc for the support to the entire program.
Sincerely,
Jack Carroll,
Coordinator: Jr. Iron Chef
