We must mention first and foremost our two teams we entered in this year’s Jr. Iron Chef Vermont.  We entered a Middle School team and a High School team.  Both teams returned home winners. The Skillet Takes is our Middle School team.  Team members are Gwendylan Kekic, Rileigh Thomas, Laurel King, and Ange Wunderle.  Coaches are Carrie King and Jana Bryan.  The team began developing the recipe way back in October, and came up with Red Lentil and Butternut Squash Soup with Cheese Tortellini. This team won the coveted Mis en plac award for neatness, organization, and teamwork.

Our High School team includes, Caitlin McCoy, Simone Martarano, Alexandria Pippin, and Chelsea Rose. Coaches are Christine Anderson, an excellent chef in her own right, and Jack Carroll. Their recipe was Triple Grain and Butternut Squash Shepherd’s Pie.  The Green Mt Cheftains came home with the Local Lively Award for using local ingredients. It was a great day for the Green Mt. teams competing against some 50 or so Schools.  This was our 4th trip to the competition in Essex Junction. Two out of the four trips we have come home winners.

Speaking of local, we are pleased to announce we have recently developed a buying relationship with Windham Farm and Food.
They are a purveyor of local foods in our area.  We have purchased apples, potatoes, squash, carrots, yogurt, and bagels. All from local farms right here in Vermont, many of them just down the road from us.  We are also purchasing local Beef from Black River Meats in Springfield.

The past few months we have seen our Breakfast Program here at the High School increase.  We attribute to our ever changing menu. We offer everything from Breakfast Wraps, to Breakfast Pizza, and Scrambled Eggs.  We have built a very nice following for Breakfast.

Our lunch program is doing quite well also.  In an effort to maintain participation we are constantly changing our offerings.  On any given day we offer at least 7 different options for the kids plus a full fruit and vegetable bar.  We roast our own pork for incredible pulled pork wraps.
We offer fresh Roast Beef sandwiches, turkey and Ham.  Whole grain Crust Pizza, and many more options.
Please remember the Senior Citizen Lunch the first Wednesday of each month at noon.

Happy Spring!
