Chase Competes at GeoBee

Chase Ordway-Smith competed this past Friday, March 27th in Middlebury at the National Geographic GeoBee. There were 70 Vermont students (grades 4-8) that made it to the state Geo-Bee. There was a preliminary round where the students were asked 8 questions. From those 70 students, the 10 highest scorers made it to the final round. The coordinator was GM's librarian Keighan Chapman.

Here are a few samples of the types of questions the students were asked:

Name North Africa's most populous metropolitan area. - answer is Cairo

Volcanoes in Taal Volcano Island National Park have erupted more than 30 times since the 16th century.  This park is in which Asian island country named for a Spanish king? answer is Philippines

Which peninsula is located in southern Ukraine, extends into the Black Sea, and has a subtropical climate? answer is Crimea
